Fix Grey Box Text Formatting Issues

This article covers common formatting issues that occur with Grey Box Text and instructions on how to fix those issues. For complete instructions on editing Grey Box Text, see the Edit the Grey Box Text and Edit the Grey Box Text - Advanced articles.

Can't Change Text Formatting/Pasted Formatted Text Directly from a Word Processing Application

You can't paste formatted text directly from a word processing application like Microsoft Word or Google Docs. That's because those applications use proprietary formatting that doesn't work with the web editor or for displaying on a browser. For complete instructions on copying and pasting text from a word processing application, see the Edit the Grey Box Text - Advanced article.

When you paste formatted text, you end up with text in the web editor that you can't change the formatting on. To resolve this:

  1. Select all of the text you pasted and delete it.

  2. Ensure any lines or spaces that came in with the formatted text are also removed.

  3. Follow the Edit the Grey Box Text - Advanced article instructions to correctly paste in text.

Pasted Text All Comes in Formatted as a Header

If you followed the Edit the Grey Box Text - Advanced article instructions and your pasted text is all formatted as a header, then there could still be formatting on that line in the web editor. To resolve this:

  1. Select the text, click the Header formatting button, and select Normal. Your text should all go to a normal paragraph formatting.

  2. Use the different formatting options to properly format your text.

If that doesn't resolve the issue:

  1. Select the text and delete it.

  2. Ensure any extra lines or spaces are also removed.

  3. With your cursor on the line where you pasted the text, click the Header formatting button, and select Normal. This just ensures that any future text you paste in won't have any formatting attached to it.

  4. Paste in your text and use the different formatting options to properly format your text.

A Link Doesn't Work

Eproval lets you link to things such as other web pages, related permits, or downloadable files in the Grey Box Text. If a link in your published Grey Box Text doesn't work, try these steps to resolve the issue:

  1. Make sure the link begins with either http:// or https://, whichever is on the targeted link. Just having a URL like "www.eproval.com" won't work. You need to have the http:// or https:// in front of it. For example: https://www.eproval.com.

Image shows the pop-up for adding a link with the correct formatting starting with http:// or https://
  2. Test the link entered to make sure it's valid. A good way to do this is to copy the link you have entered, and then paste it directly into a new browser window. If the link fails that way, then you know you have an issue with the URL. Double-check that the URL you have is correct. If it still fails, make sure the webpage or downloadable file still exists at that URL.
