Edit the Grey Box Text - Advanced
Before you begin this process, make sure you read the Edit the Grey Box Text article so you're familiar with the basics of editing Grey Box Text.
A common issue is that people try to copy and paste text directly into the web editor from applications like Microsoft Word or Google Docs. The problem with this is that those applications use proprietary formatting that doesn’t work with the web editor. That’s because the web editor’s job is to make the text display properly on browsers, and that proprietary formatting from those other apps causes a conflict.
While the pasted text might look fairly close, you won’t be able to change any of the formatting and it will cause a lot of issues going forward, both for you and the applicant. That’s why we recommend typing directly into the web editor and using the tools provided to format the text the way you want it to display. However, if you absolutely must copy and paste a large amount of text, follow the instructions below for the best results.
Advanced Instructions
Copying and pasting from a word processing application like Microsoft Word involves using a text editor application, like Notepad on a Windows machine or TextEdit on a Mac. These instructions assume you have access to a text editor and know the basics of how to use it. As noted, these instructions are for advanced computer users only.\
Open up the document you want to copy from, such as a Microsoft Word Document or Google Doc.
Select all of the text you want to copy and then copy the text (Ctrl+C in Windows or Cmd+C on a Mac).
Open a new document in your text editor.
Paste the copied text into your text editor (Ctrl+V in Windows or Cmd+V on a Mac).
Make sure all of the formatting is removed from your text document.
In Notepad, your document is usually converted to a text file automatically. Make sure it is saved with a .txt extension.
In TextEdit, you may need to convert it to text. Go to Format > Make Plain Text and then click OK to convert it.
Once the formatting is removed, select all of the text and copy it again (Ctrl+C in Windows or Cmd+C on a Mac).
Note: Some word processing applications like Microsoft Word have features that allow you to remove formatting. However, this can leave some aspects like links and isn't always 100% effective. For best results, we recommend using a text editor like Notepad or TextEdit to remove the formatting.Open Eproval and Go to Tools > Configuration.
Depending on your setup, you may see multiple application types listed, or you may have only one. Scroll down to the application type you want to edit and click Steps & Workflow.
Every step listed is a different section in the application, and every section has its own grey box text that you can update. Find the step you want to update, and click on the Edit icon in the Content column.
Under the Step Content field, you'll see the Web Editor (text box) with any text already listed.
Position your cursor where you want your new text to go, and paste the text into the web editor (Ctrl+V in Windows or Cmd+V on a Mac).
You can now format your text to match your original document using the formatting tools provided in the web editor. See the Edit the Grey Box Text (Application Step Instructions) article for complete formatting options
Once you're done editing and formatting your text, click Save Changes.
